Being away from both America and my family has made me miss and appreciate both more than I ever thought possible. Another thing I miss, my polaroid camera! It got to be an expensive habit but the love was too strong and I stayed loyal to the end! This personal series is a pretty accurate description of my 'American Family'. YES, yes, YES, we all know Valentine's Day has been created into this outrageously commercial holiday.. Yet I believe there are still some true romantics out there who don't get caught up in all the buying. I mean LOVE isn't just for one day of the year, right? I've got two examples very close to my heart to prove it! First, my favorite image of my parents, it is so typical of them and describes their relationship perfectly! Whenever I look at this photo I can smile till I laugh. There is something so simple yet intimate about it. My parents are the best of friends and I love how they really enjoy each other's company, always. Growing up with parents from a fairy-tale romance was a great example and made me expect nothing less! Granted, my mom is a great story-teller but as children she had me and my two sisters all believe my father was a frog (what makes it even better is that she has always really loves frogs and had a big habit of catching them) when they met and he turned into a prince when she kissed him and Well, it still is Happily Ever After. Second, my grandparents. Looking at this picture I am particularly emotional as my grandmother passed away last year.
My grandparents have been such a massive part of my life and a big inspiration. My grandfather met my gram, the love of his life and within a month of knowing each other, he proposed, on Valentine's Day! They were so strong together and stayed that way for over fifty years. I love this photo because it reminds me of how openly affectionate they were with one and other. Now that my gram is gone, my grandfather is missing his other half. He has been really strong and become even more independent, he will never lose his humor and spice but has been left with a hole in his heart and a void by his side. The story of the life and love they created together is something of pure, true happiness. They taught me about real love and its importance without saying a word. So, here is my champagne toast to my special idols in love Happy Valentines Day! |
